Currently, about 100 researchers from 35 nations work at the institute. The two departments and seven research groups investigate how the collective activity of the multitude of interconnected neurons in the brain gives rise to animal behavior in its entire range.
How the brain has evolved to allow each animal to successfully operate within a vast range of ecological niches is the focus of the institutes research.
